HR.GE reports a 9% decrease of the number of job vacancies in summer
As Inga Shakhbazian, Sales Director, Web Department at Hr Ge, states, about 141 thousand people are currently seeking employment in the country.
According to her, the number of applicants overpasses the number of vacancies, due to a decline in the job market.
The latest data by The PMC Research Centre confirms a decline in vacancies: in May- July 2025, there were 23,232 vacancies on jobs.ge (3.5% less than in the same period of 2024). Logistics, transport and distribution demonstrated the largest decrease, almost 11%, during this period.
As labor market experts believe, a decrease in economic activity and the deterioration of business sentiment have caused a reduction in the number of job vacancies.
Consequently, the unemployment rate in the country has also increased. As the Statistics Office reports, the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 0.6% compared with the same period last year in the second quarter of 2025, and attained 14.3%.
Nevertheless, as Inga Shakhbazian says, salaries remained the same in almost all sectors in three months of this year.
Shakhbazian notes that retail trade is the only sector with certain advantages. High staff turnover forces the sector to offer benefits such as training funding to potential employees in order to attract new staff. As a result, most young people work in retail trade.
As the latest data reports, the current number of hired personnel in the country exceeds 997 thousand people.
