Employment rate increased in Kazakhstan in Q1 2025
The total employment increased by 116.2 thousand people in Q1 2025 compared to the same period last year in Kazakhstan, reports the Statistics Agency.
“Compared to Q1 2024, total employment increased by 116.2 thousand people, largely due to hired workers,” reads the report.
In Q1 2025, 9,283.5 thousand people worked in various sectors of the country’s economy, including 7,141 thousand (76.9%) were hired workers, and 2,142.5 thousand (23.1%) were self-employed.
The largest number of workers are employed in trade – 17% of the total, followed by education (13.4%), industry (12.5%) and agriculture (10.3%). The most active in the labor market are Kazakhstanis aged 35-44 years – they make up 28% of all employed. Another 40% are in the age groups of 29-34 and 45-54 years. Among the regions, Almaty remains the leader in the number of hired workers – 985.8 thousand people. The largest number of self-employed people is registered in Turkestan (378.2 thousand) and Almaty (233.7 thousand) regions.
