INDICATORS OF THE LABOUR FORCE (EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT) II QUARTER, 2025 YEAR
In the II quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 0.6 percentage
points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 14.3 percent.In the II quarter of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the
number of hired employees increased by 4.7 thousand persons (0.5%) and reached 940.5 thousand,
while the number of self-employed decreased by 29.3 thousand (6.5%) and equaled to 422.2
thousand. In the same period, the number of unemployed increased by 7.9 thousand (3.6%) and
equaled 227.6 thousand.
In the II quarter of 2025, the labour force participation rate (share of the labour force in
the total population aged 15 and older) decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the
corresponding period of the previous year and became 54.1 percent, while the employment rate
decreased 0.6 percentage points and amounted to 46.4 percent. The labour force participation rate decreased in urban as well as in rural settlements, compared to the corresponding period of the
previous year, by 0.3 percentage points and 0.4 percentage points, respectively. The employment
rate decreased by 1.4 percentage points in urban settlements, while in rural settlements increased
by 0.5 percentage points and equaled 46.5 and 46.3 percent, respectively.
In the II quarter of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the
share of hired employed in the total number of employed increased by 1.6 percentage points
and equaled 69.0 percent
In the II quarter of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the
unemployment rate increased in urban settlements by 2.1 percentage points while in rural
settlements decreased by 1.5 percentage points.
The unemployment rate is traditionally higher for men than for women. In the II quarter
of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, this rate increased by 1.3
percentage points for women, while it remained unchanged for men, amounting to 12.2 percent
and 15.9 percent, respectively.
The labour force participation rate is higher for men than for women. In the II quarter of
2025, the indicator for women was 43.7 percent and for men was 66.2 percent. The labour force
participation rate for women decreased by 0.7 percentage points, while for men it increased 0.1
percentage points, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In the II quarter of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the
employment rate for women decreased by 1.2 percentage points, while for men it increased by
0.1 percentage points.
