Tbilisi and Yerevan intend to deepen strategic cooperation – Georgian FM
Georgia and Armenia strongly support and respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and continue to deepen their strategic cooperation in all areas, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said at a press briefing with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday.
“I once again thanked my counterpart today for Armenia’s historical support of the UN resolution that confirms the right of all displaced persons and refugees to return to their homes in Abkhazia and the Tskhinval district,” Darchiashvili said.
Mirzoyan, in turn, said that cooperation between Armenia and Georgia has been developing rapidly in all areas, including the economy, security, education, culture and tourism, reaffirming the significance of border delimitation and demarcation by the two countries.
“We discussed the situation in the South Caucasus region and the challenges facing our countries at today’s meeting. I told my counterpart that Armenia stands ready to fully normalize relations with Turkey and establish diplomatic relations,” Mirzoyan said.
Armenia is also ready to normalize relations with Azerbaijan, he said.
“I said at the meeting that we will be able to finalize the negotiation process within a month and sign an important agreement with Azerbaijan that will pave the way for establishing a durable peace in our region,” Mirzoyan said.
