Construction, agriculture lead sectors employing foreign labor in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has employed 13,707 foreign nationals under local work permits as of October 1, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports citing the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population.
The number is made up of 548 executives, 2,503 leaders of structural divisions, 4,874 specialists, and 861 skilled workers. Furthermore, 1,586 foreign nationals are employed in seasonal labor, while 3,335 are employed through corporate transfers.
At present, 1,799 employers in Kazakhstan employ foreign personnel. Local citizens continue to constitute the majority of the workforce, accounting for 96.6% of the total with more than 390,000 Kazakh employees. Key sectors employing foreign labor include construction (5,144), agriculture and forestry (1,638), administrative support (1,439), manufacturing (1,376), and mining (1,344).
The largest number of foreign workers come from China (4,600), Uzbekistan (1,698), Turkiye (1,145), and India (1,101). In order to protect local employment, the Ministry implements annual quotas for foreign specialists. This limit is set at 0.23% of the workforce in 2024, which equates to approximately 21,500 individuals.
