Legal employment of Ukrainian men in Poland continues to rise
The number of legally employed Ukrainians in Poland reached 779,300 by late October 2024, the Polish Social Insurance Office (ZUS) reported on Nov. 20.
By early 2024, 755,000 Ukrainians were legally employed in Poland, increasing to 762,200 by March and 771,000 by June, according to Bankier.pl, citing a ZUS report. Among them, 406,500 are men, and 372,700 are women, with most aged 30-44.
The highest concentration of Ukrainian workers is in Mazovia (188,100), Lower Silesia (92,700), and Wielkopolska (89,500). In total, 1.17 million foreign nationals work legally in Poland, with Belarusian citizens (135,200) and Georgians (26,800) forming the second- and third-largest groups.
Ukrainians who arrived in Poland after February 24, 2022, can obtain a PESEL number for legal residency, though leaving Poland for over a month may result in losing this status unless sent abroad by a Polish employer. Families have access to assistance programs if their children attend Polish schools, with exceptions for high school students.
Earlier reports detailed living conditions for Ukrainians working in Poland and shifts in residence patterns for Ukrainian refugees during the war, NV Business noted.
